Postdoctoral Fellow — The Alagpulinsa Laboratory

Position Summary:

The Alagpulinsa Laboratory at Yale University School of Medicine seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join an interdisciplinary research program focused on hematopoiesis and neuroimmune regulation in autoimmune and cardiometabolic disease. The lab integrates human genetics, single-cell multi-omics, computational biology, and experimental immunobiology to understand how genetic variation shapes hematopoiesis, immune, metabolic, and neurocognitive phenotypes in autoimmune and cardiometabolic disease. This position is ideal for a scientist who enjoys working across wet-lab experimentation and data-driven analysis, and who is interested in translating genetic insights into biological mechanisms and therapeutic advances.

Research Focus

  • Immune and hematopoietic regulation in type 1 diabetes, neurocognition, and cardiometabolic disease
  • Functional interpretation of disease-associated genetic variants
  • Integration of single-cell multiome data (snATAC + scRNA-seq) with large-scale human genetics
  • Analysis of population-scale datasets and biobanks (e.g., All of Us, UK Biobank)

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Design and execute wet-lab experiments, including some combination of:
    • qPCR / RT-qPCR
    • Western blotting
    • Flow cytometry
    • Fluorescence Microscopy
    • Mouse work (including immune and cardiometabolic models)
  • Analyze and interpret genetic and genomic data, including:
    • GWAS and polygenic analyses
    • Integration of genetic data with single-cell and bulk transcriptomic/epigenomic datasets
    • Statistical genetics analyses using large biobanks (e.g., All of Us, UK Biobank)
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, and collaborative projects
  • Mentor trainees (as appropriate) and participate in a highly interactive research environment

Required Qualifications

  • PhD (or MD/PhD) in genetics, immunology, computational biology, systems biology, neuroscience, bioinformatics, or a related field
  • Strong background in either wet-lab experimental biology or computational/statistical genetics, with interest in developing complementary skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with single-cell genomics, multi-omics integration, or statistical genetics
  • Familiarity with large-scale human datasets (e.g., All of Us, UK Biobank, dbGaP)
  • Experience in autoimmune, immunometabolic, neuroimmune, or cardiometabolic research
  • Programming experience in R, Python, or related languages is a plus

Environment and Training

The Alagpulinsa Lab provides a highly supportive and intellectually rigorous environment emphasizing:

  • Scientific independence and ownership of projects
  • Cross-disciplinary training
  • Strong mentorship and career development
  • Collaboration across Yale departments and centers

Application Instructions

Interested candidates should submit:
