What Is a Postgrad?
A postgraduate appointee is an individual who has earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or its equivalent) and is engaged in a temporary period of academic or research training under the mentorship of a Yale Ladder Rank Faculty member.
This training is designed to:
- Provide structured academic or research experience
- Support the development of specialized skills and knowledge
- Prepare individuals for future academic, research, or professional opportunities
Postgraduate appointments at Yale are typically:
- One year in duration, with the possibility of a one-year extension
- Guided by clearly defined educational and training objectives
- Supervised by a designated Ladder Rank Faculty mentor
