Terminations

When an appointee leaves Yale, please ensure that both the position and the academic appointment are terminated in Workday. Begin by terminating the position, as this action will automatically initiate the end of the academic appointment.

Postdoctoral and Postgraduate appointees 

To terminate the position and appointment for a postdoctoral or postgraduate appointment, please use the Workday Termination/Separation: Employee (Academic) guide.  

Important Notes - Appointees who resign prior to a scheduled appointment end date must provide their department with written notice, which should be forwarded before the termination is processed in Workday to the appropriate administrator: 

  1. For Postdoctoral Appointees (YSM and YSPH): Abby Davi
  2. For Postgraduate Appointees (YSM and YSPH): Daniela Velarde 
  3. For FAS and all other Professional Schools: Alisa Paradise

Terminations prior to the end date may occur due to poor performance or loss of funding, with each case being handled individually.

*Note: A postdoc or postgrad in their first year of appointment may not be terminated for financial reasons.

Contingent Workers

  1. In the Workday search bar, type in “end contingent worker contract”
  2. Search for your Visiting Fellow or Laboratory Associate in the contingent worker field.
  3. In the next screen, enter the contract end date.
  4. Use reason code: Involuntary > Assignment Ended
  5. The remaining fields will default and can be left alone.
  6. Submit the transaction.
