Office of Career Strategy

Your postdoctoral experience has equipped you not only with specialized expertise in your discipline but also with a strong transferable skill-set that may be applied to a range of careers. At Yale, there are many ways to learn about the diverse paths that postdoctoral scholars and others have taken outside of the academy and to explore opportunities open to them.

Yale’s Office of Career Strategy provides postdoctoral scholars with the opportunity to explore career options, develop professional skills and experiences and conduct a rewarding  job search.  Be sure to review their events calendar frequently for upcoming workshops, alumni panels and employer events and make an appointment with an advisor for personalized advice on your career development journey.

How to Engage with Yale’s Office of Career Strategy

Utilize Yale Career Link:  Yale Career Link is your way to schedule one-on-one appointments with an OCS adviser, leverage their expansive Employer Directory, hone your job interviewing skills, and more!  All current postdocs are provided with Yale Career Link accounts upon starting their time at Yale.  To access this resource for the first time, use your Yale email address as your username and click the ‘forgot password’ option to reset your password and access your account.

Meet with an Adviser:  The Office of Career Strategy’s team of advisers are available to meet with you one-on-one to discuss your career options, review important documents like resumes and cover letters, help you negotiate a job offer, and more!  They are available for 30 and 60 minute appointments, Monday through Friday, year-round.  All appointments can be scheduled via Yale Career Link and are currently held via Zoom.

Attend an Event:  The Office of Career Strategy hosts dozens of workshops, employer information sessions, and alumni panels year-round.  These events can help you learn more about a given employer or industry, help refine relevant skills for a given career or profession, or help introduce you to Yale’s deep pool of alumni (including postdocs) who are willing to serve as resource in your professional job search.  All upcoming events can be found via the ‘Events’ tab in Yale Career Link and require prior registration.

The Office of Career Strategy is located at 55 Whitney Avenue, 3rd floor.  They host advising appointments at this location as well as 3 satellite locations (Sterling Hall of Medicine room L-207B, Founders Hall/135 Prospect room 187B, and the West Campus Conference Center).  For general questions, please contact
