Introduction of School/Department:

The Department of Pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine is dedicated to advancing child health through excellence in clinical care, education, and research. The department’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of infants, children, and adolescents by integrating patient-centered care with innovative biomedical research and training. Within this department, the Section of Pediatric Critical Care and Immunobiology focuses on understanding and treating pediatric immune dysregulation, with a commitment to translational research that bridges basic science and patient care.

Overview of the Position:

This Postgraduate Associate position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational and human immunology research within the Brodsky Laboratory. The lab studies immune development in early life, emphasizing CD8+ T-cell biology, severe viral infections (including RSV bronchiolitis), and immune dysregulation in infants and children.

Education:

This position will provide rigorous preparation for graduate or medical school applications by engaging trainees in hypothesis-driven research that integrates cellular, molecular, and computational methods. The trainee will gain exposure to human immunology, translational study design, and scientific communication.

Training:

The Postgraduate Associate will receive structured, hands-on training in:
• Human immunology, including flow cytometry, metabolic assays, and T-cell functional studies
• Sample processing and management within a pediatric biorepository
• Translational and systems immunology approaches, including single-cell RNA sequencing and immune phenotyping
• Data analysis, scientific writing, research communication, human subjects research and IRB protocols.

Mentoring:

The trainee will be mentored directly by Dr. Nina Brodsky (Principal Investigator) and senior research staff, with regular weekly meetings for guidance and feedback. The trainee will also attend weekly lab meetings, participate in departmental seminars, and engage with collaborative teams across Pediatrics, Immunobiology, and Systems Immunology at Yale.

Location:

Training will take place in the Brodsky Laboratory, located within the Department of Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, LSOG 4th floor, New Haven, CT 06510.

*Note: Postgraduate appointments are one-year positions with the possibility of a one-year renewal. We prefer candidates who can give a two year commitment. *

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (required) in Immunology, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
• Demonstrated interest in immunology, pediatrics, or translational biomedical research.
• Prior laboratory experience (e.g., cell culture, flow cytometry, molecular biology) and excitement to learn.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills and excellent work ethic.

Process to Apply:

Deadline: Rolling until filled.

Application Materials:

  • Cover letter describing research interests and career goals
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
