Overview of the Position:

This postgraduate associate position is co-mentored by Dr. Ping Mu and Dr. Su Deng and is ideal for recent college graduates seeking full-time research experience before pursuing graduate or medical school training. The position provides an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying resistance to targeted and immune therapies in prostate and other cancers.

Education: 

This position offers extensive exposure to translational cancer biology, complementing the trainee’s undergraduate education and providing a strong foundation for future advanced study. The training directly supports the development of scientific reasoning, experimental design, and data interpretation skills essential for success in biomedical graduate or medical programs.

Training: 

The trainee will receive comprehensive hands-on training in molecular and cell biology techniques, including cell culture, PCR, Western blotting, cloning, and immunofluorescence. Additional training will include mouse handling and colony maintenance, reagent and media preparation, and data management. The trainee will also learn to maintain compliance with laboratory safety and animal care regulations. This training occurs within a dynamic and collaborative research setting that integrates advanced organoid and immune-oncology models to study therapy resistance.

Mentoring: 

The trainee will be directly mentored by Drs. Ping Mu and Su Deng for broader scientific and career development. Mentorship will include regular one-on-one meetings with faculty mentors, participation in weekly lab meetings, and attendance at departmental seminars and journal clubs. The trainee will work closely with other lab members to promote teamwork, critical thinking, and scientific communication skills while preparing for future graduate or medical education.

Qualifications:

The minimum qualification for this postgraduate position is a bachelor’s degree in a biological or related scientific discipline. Candidates should have a strong academic background in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, or biochemistry, and demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a future career in biomedical research, graduate study, or medicine.

  • Prior research experience in a molecular biology, cancer biology, or related laboratory is preferred but not required. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.
