Substance Use Prevention Post-Doctoral Research Position at the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine (Camenga Lab)

Introduction:

The Camenga Lab at Yale University is looking for a Postdoctoral Associate to join our research team, working on a funded study that aims to develop and test a novel implementation strategy for substance use prevention in pediatric primary care. The project will investigate the utility of embedding a family-focused, universal substance use prevention intervention in primary care, with a special focus on clinical decision support to facilitate implementation. The project employs a Team Science approach, with close collaboration with investigators in the Yale School of Medicine’s Departments of Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, and Yale Child Study Center. 

Overview of the position: 

The Postdoctoral Associate will collaborate closely with Principal Investigators, Drs. Camenga and Aneni, as well as other co-investigators. This position offers training and hands-on experience in all aspects of clinical research. Responsibilities include leading, with supervision, all aspects of the study, including developing and implementing research protocols, designing mixed-methods studies, screening and recruiting participants, collecting, and managing research data, processing, and analyzing this data, publishing study findings, and writing grants. Additionally, the candidate will engage closely with a Family Advisory Board and apply community participatory research principles throughout all aspects of the study.

The Postdoctoral Associate will also gain experience in applying user-centered design principles to create tailored implementation strategies and clinician decision support tools, thereby enhancing the uptake of evidence-based interventions. 

Training/Mentoring/Education

The Postdoctoral Associate will meet weekly with Drs. Camenga and Aneni actively participate in study-related meetings with collaborators. Additionally, the Associate will be expected to work on manuscripts for presentations at national conferences and for publication in peer-reviewed journals. This position is for a one-year appointment, with the option to continue for an additional year, pending adequate performance and funding.

Qualifications:

  1. PhD or MD-PhD in Public Health, Clinical Psychology, Prevention/Implementation Science, or a related field
  2. Specialization or demonstrated interest in adolescent health, substance use prevention, implementation science, or community-engaged research is preferred.
  3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with communities or conduct research in primary care settings.
  4. Excellent project management skills
  5. Track record of research productivity, supported by first-author publication(s) in peer-reviewed journals.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  7. Experience conducting qualitative and/or mixed methods research.
