Introduction: The Department of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science at Yale is a leader in developing and applying computational tools to transform our understanding of human health. Dr. Loza leads projects using statistical and deep learning methods to improve risk prediction, phenotyping, and delivery of healthcare. This specific project focuses on developing and validating a transformer-based generative model of electronic health record data leveraging newly developed techniques for mixed categorical and numeric variables. This goal for this work is to use this model for improved prediction of critical events in hospitalized pediatric patients.

Position Overview: We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified postgraduate trainee to join the project team. This individual should have experience in python programming including experience with the PyTorch library and running deep learning models.

Education: The postgraduate associate will gain knowledge and experience in data science, deep learning, statistics, pediatrics, and the responsible conduct of research.

Training: This work will provide hands on training in implementing deep learning models, running these models on high performance GPU computing clusters. This will provide in-depth knowledge of the technology that drives current large language models.

Mentoring: The postgraduate associate will be directly mentored by faculty members and work closely with graduate students in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics program. They will participate in weekly research group meetings and have access to career development mentoring experiences.

Qualifications: A BA or BS is required. A background in computer programming, whether through formal Computer Science training or applied experience is required. We are looking for organized, enthusiastic applicants who work well on a team and can quickly pick up new topics.
