Introduction of School/Department:
Our team consists of members of the Department of Pathology and Medicine (Medical Oncology) at the Yale School of Medicine. We use innovative multidisciplinary approaches to identify biomarkers of treatment resistance, brain metastasis, and clinical outcome in patients with lung cancer.
Overview of the Position
The incidence of brain metastasis is rising across multiple types of cancer and this remains a significant barrier to improving the survival and quality of life of patients with advanced stage cancers. We are looking for motivated candidates who are interested in joining our team of translational cancer investigators to study this question.
Education: The position is ideal for recent graduates interested in strengthening their research experience and publication record prior to applying to medical and/or graduate school.
Training: The Associate will have the opportunity to learn and apply scientific skills that can be directly applied to study human disease. This includes, but is not limited to: processing of biospecimens (both restrospective and prospective) from cancer patients, collecting clinical information about patient’s cancer diagnosis and treatment course, execution of laboratory experiments, as well as analyzing the data generated using modern bioinformatic and biostatistical techniques. The Associate is also expected to contribute to essential lab operations, present their work in various meeting formats and is encouraged to contribute towards published work.
Mentoring: The Associate will be co-mentored by Dr. Don X. Nguyen and Dr. Sarah Goldberg, while receiving a tailored mentorship suited to their specific career goals. The principal investigators have trained, supervised, and managed undergraduates, postgraduate associates, research technicians, medical students, graduate students, and fellows who have moved onto competitive training and professional positions. The Associate will have the unique opportunity to participate in a multidisciplinary research environment which includes active collaborations with clinicians and basic scientists.
Qualification:
The candidate should have completed a bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree. The candidate should be organized and have good communication skills. They must have displayed the ability to think critically, and be willing to work as part of a team of diverse investigators.
