Introduction: A post-graduate research position in clinical and translational research is available in the Department of Pediatrics within the Clinical and Translational Research Accelerator at Yale University. Our laboratory focuses on understanding the risk factors of kidney disease and developing novel biomarkers to assist with clinical decision making and inform clinical trials in children with kidney disease. Our lab is composed of a team of physicians, nurses, research fellows, and study coordinators. Overview of the Position:
Education: We will provide education in patient-oriented research and medical knowledge. We will provide guidance and feedback on scientific presentations and poster preparations. An emphasis will be placed on learning statistical programming using STATA software. Furthermore, we will provide education and feedback with manuscript preparation and submission.
Training: The candidate will have the opportunity to obtain clinical research experience, enroll patients in research studies, interact with healthcare professionals, and work closely with clinical physicians. There is also the opportunity to participate in statistical analyses, presentation of research findings, and manuscript publication. Our training will be focused to advance each post-grads educational and career goals, providing a pathway toward their future pursuits in medicine and their medical school application. Through seminars, workshops, hands on experience, postgrads will gain an improved understanding of clinical research methodology, ethics in medicine, and improving their interactions with patients.
Mentoring: The candidate will receive mentoring from faculty, attend weekly lab meetings, travel to national scientific meetings, and work alongside other postgraduates in an educational environment. Additionally, frequent interactions with physician-scientists, participation in conferences dedicated to methodological issues in ongoing and future research, and frank collaboration on projects within our community make this an ideal environment in which to train while gaining research experience. The position is available for one year with the possibility of a one-year renewal.
Qualifications: Requirements for the position include a BA/BS or completion of the premedical track. Experience with enrolling research participants, statistics, and/or scientific writing is a plus. We seek candidates with a strong desire to contribute to patient-oriented research and obtain medical knowledge. Prior experience in a research laboratory or hospital is preferred but not required. Candidates should be motivated, enthusiastic, and organized.
