Arriving at Yale

Important steps upon arriving at Yale:

  1. International postdocs must visit the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS), located at 421 Temple Street.
  2. Visit your faculty mentor and departmental business office.
  3. Get your Yale ID card (see PDA Handbook).
  4. Activate your NetID (see PDA Handbook).
  5. On your first day of work you must complete your I-9 form in Workday through the It’s Your Yale website, then bring your required documentation to a Yale I-9 Center.
  6. Enroll in your benefits within 30 days of your start date. Enroll in Workday through the It’s Your Yale website. 
  7. Attend Postdoc Orientation.
  8. Go to the Training and Certification website to complete a training assessment. Postdocs who speak English as a second language should also visit Resources for Foreign Scholars site for training resources in other languages.
  9. Apply for a U.S. Social Security number.
  10. International postdocs should make an appointment with the International Tax Office within 30 days of beginning work at Yale to complete important tax documents.
