Postgraduate Research Associate - Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine

XRPeds, within the department of Pediatrics at the Yale School of Medicine, focuses on the use of immersive technologies in applications, interventions, and research with the goal of improving lives and reducing disparities among youth and their families. We are seeking a postgraduate associate to assist in a year-long project to review school policies on cell phone and social media use. As part of the XRPeds team, the postgraduate associate will also assist in the development, data collection, and implementation of game-based health interventions within the lab.

Education: 

The Postgraduate Associate will gain education in topics related to immersive technology as it pertains to health and medicine. They will also gain education around behavioral and clinical intervention development, evaluation, and implementation of immersive technologies. The postgraduate will also learn about research methods, HIPAA compliance, and working with diverse populations. 

Mentorship

As part of our team, the Postgraduate Associate will gain mentorship and research experience by working closely with a multidisciplinary team on the development and evaluation of several game- and XR-based clinical applications and health interventions focused on improving the lives of youth and young adults. The Postgraduate Associate will be mentored directly by Dr Kimberly Hieftje.

Training: 

The successful candidate will gain research experience and training by participating in all phases of our research projects alongside our team: formative work and research, conceptualization and development; recruitment of subjects for focus group/playtesting; design and implementation of subsequent randomized controlled trial; data collection; management and analysis; writing up results; and presenting findings.

This one-year, full-time position offers the opportunity to work alongside a prolific group of researchers and clinicians but requires creativity, excellent writing skills, and a strong interest in intellectual collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. Position beginning January 10th 2026, materials should be submitted no later than December 1st 2025.
